MacMillan Pier comes alive for the Cruise for Life “Celebration of Life”!!
All Cruise for Life participants will come together for a Mid-Summer party that will last you right through to Fall. Spend the night with fellow boaters who not only share your passion for being on the water, but also share your passion for curing cancer!!
The tented, on-the-water extravaganza will be a feast for your senses. All participants will enjoy a lobster bake and Southern Style BBQ provided by the award winning team at New England BBQ and Catering. Dance the night away, sing a-long, or both with one of the Northeast’s favorite party bands, Unity!! Several, full service bars will be set up to help quench your thirst and an attentive staff will be on hand to cater to your every need!!
The night will also include inspirational speeches and presentations from doctors, patients, survivors, researchers and others who spend their lives working on and dreaming of a world without cancer.
Awards will also be presented throughout the night. Prizes will include:
- The top fundraising boat
- The top fundraising individual
- The top fundraising Yacht Club
- The Yacht Club with the most participating boats
- Race prizes for the Cruise for Life “Fun Runs”
- And More!!

Steve Farrin – Owner/ Pitmaster
Farrin’s team “I Smell Smoke!!!” was the third ranked competition squad out of more than four-thousand in the country in 2009 on the Kansas City Barbeque circuit, and has been New England Barbecue Society’s team of the year 4 of the last 5 years (finishing 2nd just to give someone else a chance). Steve currently holds the State Grand Champion titles in New York, Maine and Connecticut; as well as the 2010 MASS State Grilling Title.
Brendan Burek – Owner/ Pitmaster
Burek’s Transformer BBQ has won dozens of awards on the competition circuit as well, and was New England Barbecue Society Team of the Year for Ribs in 2008. Transformer BBQ finished 2010 as Reserve Grand Champions at both the KCBS BBQ and Grilling contests at the New England BBQ Championship; as well as Reserve Champion at the Maine State BBQ Championship (yes… 2nd to Steve). Transformer BBQ also finished 3rd at the CT State championship, with awards in every single category. The team completed a solid year, finishing in the top 5 in every single contest entered in 2010.

They have an uncanny ability to bring life and excitement to any party. Members of Unity have performed all over the world with a cast of diverse artists, including Brian McKnight, Natalie Cole, James Taylor, Tony Bennett, Harry Belafonte, Missing Persons, Mark Wahlberg, New Kids on the Block, Funky Bunch and Bob Dylan sideman, Al Kooper.
Hailed as one of Boston’s leading party bands, Unity’s style is sharp and cosmopolitan, embracing each room they play with an undeniable energy.
